Choosing between 1.5kW and 6kW comes down to the metal and thickness you cut. Lower-power sources at 1.5 to 2kW handle thin to medium sheet, which covers most enclosures, brackets, and signage. A 3kW source adds speed and thicker plate, while 6kW cuts the thickest stock here and runs faster on everything. Carbon steel benefits the most from added power because oxygen adds heat to the cut, so thickness climbs quickly. Assist Gas: Oxygen, Nitrogen, or Air

The assist gas matters as much as the laser: it clears the melt and sets the edge. Oxygen reacts with carbon steel and adds heat, so it cuts thick steel fast, but leaves a darker, oxidized edge that may need cleaning before paint or welding. Nitrogen is inert and blows the melt out under high pressure, leaving a bright, oxide-free edge, the standard for stainless and aluminum. Its drawback is high gas use and cost. Can it cut tube and pipe, or only flat sheet?

The base machine cuts flat sheet, but a rotary pipe-cutting device can be added for round and square tube. If tube work is a big part of your business, a dedicated sheet and tube cutter is worth considering.

Why is my stainless or aluminum edge discolored?

That discoloration is oxidation from cutting with oxygen or air. Switch to nitrogen, which shields the edge and leaves it bright and weld-ready. If a straw color remains, check nitrogen pressure and purity. More fixes are in this cutting problems guide.

Can it cut reflective copper and brass?

Yes. Copper and brass reflect the beam, so they need back-reflection protection and more power than steel of the same thickness. Oxygen assist helps copper absorb the beam. Both cut cleanly once the parameters are dialed in.

Does it need a water chiller?

Yes. A water chiller cools the fiber source and cutting head, and stable temperature keeps power and beam quality steady. Higher-power sources shed more heat, so they need a larger chiller. Keep the coolant clean and topped up.

What software runs it for cutting and nesting?

It uses a cutting controller such as CypCut. You import a DXF drawing, nest the parts to save material, set gas and speed, then send it to the machine. Nesting is where most of the material savings come from.

What safety and fume protection does it need?

Bought this laser cutter to upgrade my metal crafting in commercial use. It is fast and easy to use with smooth & clean cut, and save you much more cost and time compared to waterjet and plasma cutters. In additional, it is an auomatic power tool with CNC contoller compared to handheld tin snips and shears. This machine has been cutting exactly as I expected. It is great to cut the edge of sheet metals. I have cut over 100 Pcs of 4x8 stainless steel plates 304 so far with no issues. Expect it to perform better in the future.

I bought this laser 3 months back and tried it a little, but today was the first time I actually used it for a cut. It worked out great. I had 1/8 stainless steel plate to cut and it did great as I was expecting, but way faster then and my other options.
