From Loading to Labeled Parts

What makes this machine automatic is the way it moves material without hands on it. A hydraulic lifting platform raises a stack and feeds one sheet at a time, while a vacuum sucker picks the sheet up, straightens any skew, and sets it in exact position on the table. As the router cuts, a labeling unit prints and applies a barcode to each part, so every piece is identified for edge-banding and assembly before it even leaves the bed. That labeling step is what keeps a room's worth of look-alike panels from getting mixed up downstream. When the sheet is finished, a conveyor carries the cut parts off to the next station. One operator can keep several sheets flowing, which is what turns a single machine into a near-continuous line.

Nesting, Beam Saw, or Point-to-Point

It helps to know how nesting compares with the older ways of cutting panels. A nesting router cuts the true shape of every part, curves and interior holes included, straight from a full sheet, packing them tightly to save material. A beam saw is faster on plain rectangles because it can slice through a stack of sheets at once, but it cuts only straight lines and needs a separate machine to drill and shape. A point-to-point works one panel at a time. For custom and mixed panel furniture, where parts vary and few are simple rectangles, nesting usually wins on handling and flexibility. The table below sums up the trade-offs.

Three ways to cut panels:

MethodHow It WorksBest For
Nesting routerCuts every part and hole from one sheetCurved and mixed panel parts
Beam sawStraight cuts through stacked sheetsHigh volumes of identical rectangles
Point-to-pointOne panel loaded and worked at a timeSmall batches and custom pieces

Cut, Groove, and Drill in One Pass

A nesting router does more than cut outlines. With a 9kW tool-changing spindle and a vertical drilling unit, the same cycle can rout the part shape, plow grooves for back panels and drawer bottoms, carve pockets, and bore the holes for shelves and hardware. Because all of that happens before the sheet is unloaded, each part comes off ready to band and assemble, with no trip to a separate boring machine. The automatic tool changer swaps between a cutting bit, a grooving tool, and drills without an operator stepping in, so a full sheet of mixed operations runs start to finish on its own. This one-pass approach is the main reason nesting saves so much labor over cutting and drilling on separate machines.

Materials, Edge Quality, and Dust

The CNC router machine handles the full range of panel stock: MDF, particleboard, plywood, melamine-faced board, PVC, acrylic, and solid wood. The faced materials are the ones to watch, because a dull bit or too fast a feed will chip the melamine or laminate along the cut. Sharp tooling, the right feed and speed, and a firm vacuum grip keep edges clean and splinter-free. Strong vacuum matters for another reason: nested parts are only held by suction, so good airflow stops small pieces from shifting late in the cut. The built-in dust collection clears chips as they form, protecting the cut quality, the moving parts, and the air in the shop.

Nesting workflow checklist:

✓ Let the software nest parts tight to save material.

✓ Label each part for edge-banding and assembly.

✓ Cut, groove, and drill in the same cycle.

✓ Use sharp bits to keep melamine edges clean.

✓ Run dust collection to keep cuts and air clean.
